Top 10 Cities with the Highest National Annual Transportation Inflation in August 2022

The increase in global oil prices, driven by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, has impacted domestic fuel prices in Indonesia. This has triggered inflation in the domestic transportation sector.

Based on provincial data, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reported that the consumer price index (CPI) for the transportation expenditure group in Bau-Bau City, Southeast Sulawesi, increased by 31.47% to 141.75 in August 2022 compared to August 2021 (year-on-year/yoy).

The inflation in the transportation expenditure group in Bau-Bau City was the highest among the 89 regencies/cities surveyed by BPS. This figure is also above the national transportation inflation rate, which was only 6.62% (yoy).

The regencies/cities with the next highest inflation in the transportation expenditure group were Kota Baru, South Kalimantan (22.57% yoy), followed by Bima City (21.22% yoy), Manokwari Regency (20.96% yoy), Tanjung Selor Regency (20.28% yoy), and Kupang City (19.11% yoy).

Following these were Ternate City (18.17% yoy), Luwuk Regency (17.82% yoy), Tarakan City (17.57% yoy), and Jayapura City (17.57% yoy).
