At least 1,396 people were named as suspects in corruption cases during 2022. The perpetrators held various positions.
Data from Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) shows that regional government employees held the highest number of positions among corruption actors in 2022, with 365 individuals. This accounts for 26.15% of the total suspects.
Second, the private sector, with 319 individuals, contributing 22.85% of the total suspects.
Third, village heads, with 174 individuals, contributing 12.46% of the total suspects.
Sadly, law enforcement officers also contributed to corruption, with 10 individuals involved.
ICW states that the actors involved in 2022 were not significantly different from previous years, especially in the top two positions. This is because the involvement of these two positions in corruption cases is interconnected, particularly in procurement cases.
ICW identifies public officials as passive bribe-takers because, as state officials, they have extensive access to policies. This relates to the transactional relationship with the private sector as active bribe-givers.
ICW classifies professional backgrounds based on employment status, including determining whether each suspect is a Civil Servant (ASN) or non-ASN.
Based on data processing, ICW found that out of 1,396 suspects, 506 individuals (approximately 36%) were ASNs, while 873 individuals (63%) were non-ASNs. The remaining 17 suspects lacked detailed information.
