Widespread Educational Corruption Found in Central Java

Three provinces on the island of Java recorded 104 of Indonesia's largest corruption cases between 2006 and 2015. Based on data from the Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW), state losses in these provinces reached Rp 276.8 billion out of a total of Rp 1.3 trillion in losses across Indonesia. The three provinces with the largest corruption losses were Central Java, with the highest losses reaching Rp 211.1 billion, followed by West Java at Rp 37.9 billion and East Java at Rp 27.8 billion.

Central Java has become one of the provinces with the highest concentration of corruption cases. According to data from the Central Java Committee for the Investigation of Corruption, Collusion, and Nepotism (KP2KKN), over the past 10 years, 20 regional heads, two deputy regional heads, and one former governor have been implicated in corruption cases. Meanwhile, South Sulawesi is also one of the regions with a high rate of corruption cases in the education sector, with state losses exceeding Rp 84.9 billion, while North Sumatra reached Rp 56.5 billion.
