Jakarta's economy grew by 5.85 percent in 2016, reaching Rp 1.54 quadrillion (at constant prices) from Rp 1.45 quadrillion the previous year. Data from Jakarta's Central Statistics Agency (Badan Pusat Statistik DKI) recorded the highest growth in the transportation and warehousing sector at 11.24 percent. Meanwhile, in terms of expenditure, the highest growth was achieved by the LNPRT (Non-Profit Institutions Serving Households) consumption component, at 11.67 percent.
Jakarta's economy, based on current prices, reached Rp 2.18 quadrillion, with a per capita regional gross domestic product (PDRB) of Rp 207.99 million, equivalent to US$15,550. The Indonesian capital's economic structure is dominated by three main sectors: wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, contributing 16.49 percent; manufacturing, contributing 13.55 percent; and construction, contributing 12.88 percent.
Jakarta's economic growth consistently surpasses national economic growth. In 2016, Indonesia's economy grew by only 5.02 percent from the previous year. Jakarta's significantly high regional revenue, coupled with its relatively small area, contributes to its higher economic growth compared to the national average.
