How many Regents/Mayors have been implicated in corruption cases?

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a sting operation (OTT) against the Regent of North Lampung, Agung Ilmu Mangkunegara, on Sunday (6/10/2019). In the sting operation, the KPK detained 7 people and confiscated Rp 600 million in cash, allegedly related to projects in the Public Works Department and the Department of Cooperatives, Industry, and Trade (Diskoperindag) of North Lampung Regency.

This arrest will add to the growing list of regents/mayors implicated in corruption cases. According to KPK data, 30 regents/mayors were implicated in corruption cases in 2018. This is the highest number compared to previous years. As a result, a total of 101 regents/mayors and their deputies were caught in corruption cases between 2004 and 2018.

This is not the first time a regional head in Lampung Province has been caught in a corruption case. In January 2019, Mesuji Regent Khamami was also caught in a sting operation along with ten other people. Previously, South Lampung Regent Zainudin Hasan was arrested by the KPK in July 2018, while Central Lampung Regent Mustafa was arrested in February 2018.
