Semarang City's 2023 Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current prices (ADHB) reached Rp248.9 trillion. This represents a 5.79% growth compared to the previous year's Rp227.37 trillion.
Compared to the COVID-19 pandemic year of 2020, the region's economic growth is significantly higher. At the end of 2020, post-COVID, growth was recorded at a decrease of 1.85%.
According to BPS (Statistics Indonesia) publications, with a total population of 1.69 million, the GRDP per capita in the region is recorded at Rp146.87 million/capita/year. Nationally, this ranks 40th.
Of the 17 sectors driving the region's economy, the manufacturing industry is the leading sector.
The manufacturing sector holds the top position. In 2023, this sector contributed the largest amount to the GRDP, reaching Rp71.64 billion. This represents a 4.16% growth.
The construction sector followed, growing by 5.59% to Rp65.84 billion, and the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector grew by 4.91% to Rp32.58 billion.
Other sectors contributing to the top five include transportation and warehousing with a GRDP of Rp11.49 billion.

Based on its distribution, the main sector contributing the largest growth to the GRDP in Semarang City is the manufacturing industry, with a contribution of 25.82%. Other sectors in the top five include construction, wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, information and communication, and transportation and warehousing.
The sectors with the smallest distribution are Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries; Business Services; Mining and Quarrying; Electricity and Gas Supply; and Water Supply, Waste Management, Waste and Recycling.
