The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded an inflation rate of 0.21% (MoM) in May 2018, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) reaching 132.99. The approaching Ramadan fasting month and Idul Fitri holiday in 2018 contributed to a higher inflation rate compared to the previous month. Of the 82 cities surveyed by BPS, 65 experienced inflation, while the remainder experienced deflation.
May's inflation was due to price increases across all expenditure groups. These included: food (0.21%); processed food, beverages, tobacco (0.31%); housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel (0.19%); clothing (0.33%); health (0.21%); recreation, education, and sports (0.21%); and transportation, communication, and financial services (0.18%).
Accumulated inflation for the calendar year (January-May) 2018 reached 1.32%, and the year-on-year (YoY) inflation rate was 3.23%. The core component showed inflation of 0.21% in May, calendar year inflation (January-May) of 1.12%, and year-on-year (YoY) inflation of 2.75%.
