What were the expenses for G20 state business travel in 2020?

Tourism spending, or business travel expenditure, in G20 countries was significantly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Compared to the pre-pandemic period, these countries experienced a sharp decline in spending compared to the previous year.

The European Union recorded the highest business travel expenditure among G20 countries in 2020, according to a Statista report. Total business tourism spending by domestic and international travelers within the EU reached US$114.6 billion.

However, the EU's business travel expenditure in 2020 decreased by 55.58% compared to the previous year, which amounted to US$258 billion.

The United States ranked second with the largest business travel expenditure among G20 countries in 2020, reaching US$109.4 billion, a 69.43% decrease compared to the previous year's US$357.9 billion.

Japan and China followed, with tourism spending of US$58.5 billion and US$55.5 billion respectively. Germany, the United Kingdom, and Italy had tourism spending of US$36 billion, US$23.4 billion, and US$18.9 billion respectively.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's tourism spending was recorded at US$3.4 billion in 2020. This figure placed Indonesia fifth lowest among other G20 countries.
