Jakarta Had the Highest National Standard of Living in 2022

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's Human Development Index (HDI) increased by 0.86% to 72.91 in 2022 compared to the previous year.

The increase in the HDI level in 2022 was partly influenced by the rise in the decent living standard, represented by the adjusted per capita real expenditure (based on 2012 constant prices).

"In 2022, the adjusted per capita real expenditure of Indonesian people reached Rp11.48 million per year. This achievement increased by 2.90% compared to the previous year, in line with the ongoing recovery of the Indonesian economy," said BPS in its report.

DKI Jakarta is the province with the highest average decent living standard, where the adjusted per capita expenditure reached Rp18.93 million/capita/year in 2022. This value increased by 2.2% from the previous year.

The next highest average decent living standard is in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, namely Rp14.48 million/capita/year in 2022. Followed by the Riau Islands at Rp14.47 million/capita/year.

Of Indonesia's 34 provinces, only 9 provinces have a decent living standard above the national average, while the other 25 provinces are below the national average.

Papua is the province with the lowest decent living standard, with an average real expenditure of Rp7.15 million/capita/year in 2022. This figure has increased by 2.75% from last year, but is only equivalent to 37.7% of the decent living standard of Jakarta residents.

The next province with the lowest decent living standard is East Nusa Tenggara, at Rp7.87 million/capita/year. Following that is West Papua with a decent living standard of Rp8.1 million/capita/year.
