This City Had the Largest Christian Population in Banten in June 2022

The Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs recorded that the number of Christians in Banten Province was 317,010 in June 2021. This figure represents 2.61% of the total population of 12.15 million.

Tangerang City had the highest number of Christians in Banten Province, with 104,930 in June 2022. This accounts for 33.1% of the Christian population in Banten.

The next highest number of Christians was in Tangerang Regency, with 99,830 (31.49%). This was followed by South Tangerang City with 81,360 (25.67%), Serang Regency with 10,870 (3.43%), and Serang City with 9,280 (2.93%).

Cilegon City had 7,000 Christians (2.21%), Lebak Regency had 2,100 (0.66%), and Pandeglang Regency had 319 (0.51%).

The rejection of the construction of the Maranatha Church in Cilegon City has drawn public attention. Although every citizen is guaranteed freedom to practice their religion or belief, Christians and Catholics in Cilegon City must worship in other areas because there are no churches in Cilegon City.
