There were 14.5 Million Palestinians in Mid-2023: A Breakdown of Their Distribution

Based on data from the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), the Palestinian population reached 14.5 million in mid-2023.

This population is not only located in Palestinian territories but is also spread across the globe.

In mid-2023, approximately 5.5 million Palestinians resided in their own territories.

Of this number, 3.25 million lived in the West Bank, comprising 1.65 million men and 1.60 million women.

In the Gaza Strip, there were 2.23 million Palestinians, consisting of 1.13 million men and 1.10 million women.

Furthermore, 1.7 million Palestinians lived in "1948 Territories," the area that formerly belonged to Palestine but has been controlled and incorporated into Israel since 1948.

In mid-2023, 6.5 million Palestinians resided in Arab countries, and 800,000 were scattered across other foreign nations.

According to the PCBS, the Palestinian population is dominated by children and adolescents. "More than one-third of the (Palestinian) population is under 15 years old," stated the PCBS on its official website.

In mid-2023, the percentage of the population aged 0-14 years reached 37% of the total Palestinian population. Approximately 35% of this child and adolescent population resided in the West Bank, and 40% in the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, the percentage of the elderly population (65 years and older) reached 4% of the total Palestinian population. About 4% of the elderly lived in the West Bank, and 3% in the Gaza Strip.

Currently, the war between Palestine and Israel has reignited. The war erupted after the Hamas militant group, which controls Gaza, launched a large-scale attack on Israel on Saturday, October 7, 2023.

According to Anadolu Agency, as of Wednesday, October 10, 2023, the death toll from the war is estimated to be 2,100 from both sides.
