Kompas Research and Development Survey: Majority of Indonesian Citizens Confident in Police Maintaining Neutrality in the 2024 Election

Many Indonesians believe that the Indonesian National Police (Polri) can maintain its neutrality during the 2024 General Election. This is in line with findings from a survey by Kompas Research and Development (Litbang) showing that 65% of respondents are confident in the Polri's neutrality during the election.

"65% of respondents stated their belief that the Polri can remain neutral in supporting the election organizing process," wrote the Kompas Litbang team in their report on Saturday (2/9/2023).

The details show that 4.6% of respondents answered "very confident" and 60.4% answered "confident."

Meanwhile, 24.5% of respondents stated that they are not confident in the Polri's ability to maintain its neutrality in the upcoming election. This figure comprises 23.4% who answered "not confident" and 1.1% who answered "very not confident."

To strengthen this level of confidence, Kompas Litbang also noted the respondents' satisfaction with the Polri's performance in terms of community guidance and protection, as well as maintaining public security and order.

"The Polri's role in community guidance and protection is viewed positively by the public," wrote the Kompas Litbang team.

This is evident in both aspects, each receiving a proportion of 75.7% and 75.3% respectively.

This survey was conducted on 1,364 respondents, randomly selected using a stratified systematic sampling method across 38 provinces in Indonesia.

Data collection was carried out from July 27 to August 7, 2023, through face-to-face interviews. The margin of error is approximately 2.65% with a 95% confidence level.
