Where Did the Jabodetabek Homecoming Travelers' Money Go?

The Transportation Research and Development Agency (Balitbanghub), in its 2019 Lebaran Homecoming Transportation Potential Survey, predicted that travelers from the Jabodetabek area would spend Rp 10.3 trillion in their hometowns. The largest amount of this spending would flow to Central Java, reaching Rp 3.8 trillion (37%).

West Java was the second largest recipient of spending from Jabodetabek travelers, receiving Rp 2.05 trillion (19.9%). East Java was the third largest recipient, with Rp 1.3 trillion (12.62%). The remainder flowed to other regions in Indonesia.

Total transportation costs incurred by Jabodetabek travelers amounted to Rp 6 trillion. The highest transportation costs were incurred by those traveling to West Java (Rp 945 billion) and East Java (Rp 791 billion).

The survey, conducted among 7,762 household respondents, also revealed the average amount spent by travelers. 20.9% of respondents spent Rp 500,000 to Rp 1.5 million at their homecoming destinations. Another 20.1% of respondents spent an average of Rp 1.5 million to Rp 2.5 million in their home regions.
