83% of Taxpayer's National Identity Numbers (NIKs) were integrated with Taxpayer Identification Numbers (NPWPs) in 2023.

According to Suryo Utomo, Director General of Taxes at the Ministry of Finance, 59.88 million Taxpayer Identification Numbers (NIKs) have been integrated with Taxpayer Identification Numbers (NPWP) as of 2023. This number represents approximately 83% of all registered taxpayers in the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) system, totaling 72.46 million individuals.

Throughout 2023, approximately 55.92 million NIKs were automatically matched with NPWPs by the DJP system. Another 3.96 million NIKs were matched with NPWPs by taxpayers independently.

"Currently, there are still around 12.5 million NIKs that have not been matched (with NPWP)," said Suryo Utomo in a 2023 APBN press conference on Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024.

He stated that the DJP will continue to match NIKs and NPWPs based on information obtained from Dukcapil (the Population and Civil Registration Agency).

"We also urge taxpayers who have not yet matched their NIK and NPWP to access our portal for matching or through our office services," Suryo added.

The full implementation of NIK as NPWP was initially targeted to begin on January 1, 2024. However, its implementation has been postponed to July 1, 2024. Therefore, old NPWPs can still be used until June 30, 2024.

This provision for NIK integration with NPWP is stipulated in Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) No. 136/2023 concerning Amendments to PMK No. 112/PMK.03/2022 concerning NPWP for Individuals, Corporate Taxpayers, and Government Institution Taxpayers.
