Based on the SiPongi forest & land fire monitoring system from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF), monitoring over the past 24 hours detected 1,766 hotspots across Indonesia. This number is an increase of 379 hotspots compared to the prior period.

Data was obtained from Terra/Aqua, SNPP and NOAA satellite imagery accessed at 11.34 WIB on Wednesday (29/7/2026). Of the total detected hotspots: 31 have high confidence level, 1687 medium confidence, and 48 low confidence.

Hotspot confidence is divided into 3 tiers: Low (0-29), Medium (30-79), High (80-100). Higher hotspot confidence indicates greater likelihood of active forest and land fires in an area.

West Kalimantan recorded the highest count with 485 hotspots, followed by South Papua (153) and South Sumatra (145).

East Nusa Tenggara detected 107 hotspots, East Kalimantan 96, Central Kalimantan 73 and Aceh 71 hotspots respectively.

Hotspots are geographic coordinates showing elevated surface temperature relative to surrounding areas; they do not directly equal fire incident counts.

However, clustered or high volumes of hotspots indicate active forest and land fire events. Satellite-detected hotspot data remains the most effective method for monitoring wildfires across large territories.
