The number of households in West Java is 85 times greater than in North Kalimantan.

West Java has the highest number of households in Indonesia. In 2015, the number of households in this province reached 12.4 million, a seven percent increase compared to the 2010 population survey. In contrast, North Kalimantan had the lowest number of households, at 144,000.

Java Island still records the highest number of households in Indonesia. Other provinces outside Java with the highest number of households in the top ten are North Sumatra, South Sumatra, South Sulawesi, and Riau.

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the 2015 household figures are data from the 2015 Intercensal Population Survey (SUPAS) referring to May 2015. In this context, BPS defines a household as a group of people occupying all or part of a census dwelling and usually living together.
