Warning! Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again This Morning (Monday, September 22, 2025)

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday (9/22/2025) at 07:22 WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok only erupted once.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 300 meters above the peak or 1,723 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 17.9 millimeters and a duration of 78 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia''s volcano activity report, Mount Ili Lewotolok''s activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismicity observations on September 22, 2025, from 00:00-06:00 WITA showed 67 eruption tremors/quakes with amplitudes of 10.1-29.5 millimeters and durations of 60-369 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 50 exhalation tremors with amplitudes of 2-8 millimeters and durations of 34-40 seconds, and 1 non-harmonic tremor with an amplitude of 10.4 millimeters and a duration of 230 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok as well as visitors/hikers/tourists not to enter and not to carry out activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok''s activity, and to be aware of the potential hazards from falling/landsliding lava and hot clouds from the South and Southeast sectors, the West sector, and the Northeast sector of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,252 volcano eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,470 times), while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 278 times.
