Several countries have experienced difficult times, leading to widespread unhappiness among their populations. According to the 2022 Gallup Global Emotions report, Afghanistan was ranked as the country with the worst emotional health last year.
The report notes that Afghanistan scored 59 out of 100 points, indicating the poor state of emotional well-being in the country.
According to the Gallup report, the lives of Afghans were already in "decline" before the Taliban returned to power in 2021.
"Indeed, most Afghans struggle to afford food and shelter, few feel safe, and they see their lives getting worse each year," the report states.
The Gallup report indicates that levels of worry, stress, and sadness in Afghanistan surged to record highs in 2021. Specifically, 80% of Afghan citizens reported feeling worried, 74% stressed, and 61% felt sadder than the previous day.
"Notably, no other population in the 16-year history of the Gallup trend has ever reported this level of worry," the report states.
