Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Today, Volcanic Ash Height Reaches 300 Meters

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday (April 13, 2026) at 08:24 WITA. In the past week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted only once.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 300 meters above the peak or 1,884 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with moderate intensity heading southwest and west. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of 60 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Warning). Earthquake observations on April 13, 2026 from 00:00-23:59 WITA showed 1 eruption/explosion earthquake with an amplitude of 14.8 millimeters and a duration of 119 seconds.

Then, 1 avalanche earthquake with an amplitude of 7.4 mm and a duration of 47 seconds, as well as 3 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-14.8 millimeters and durations of 33-55 seconds.

PVMBG urges residents around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 4-kilometer radius from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,438 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (778 times) while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 21 times.
