Prevalence of Inadequate Food Consumption in Pohuwato Decreased by 1.3% in the Last Year

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Pohuwato Regency, Gorontalo, was 18.72% in 2023.

This figure is down 1.3% from the previous year's 20.02%, while it has increased by 8.15% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Pohuwato Regency is higher than the national average.

The National Food Agency (Bapanas) defines PoU as a condition where an individual regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needs for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the percentage of the population in Pohuwato Regency who consume food but lack sufficient energy intake does not reach 18.72% of the total population.

Compared to five other regencies/cities in Gorontalo Province, Pohuwato Regency ranks fifth in terms of PoU. The area with the lowest PoU (highest ranking) is Gorontalo City (10.84%), and the highest (lowest ranking) is North Gorontalo Regency (18.9%).
