The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has compiled data on the knowledge dimension of the community in East Kalimantan. This dimension is one of the indicators of the Human Development Index (HDI) in 2022.

This knowledge dimension includes school participation rate (SPR), those not attending school, and those continuing their education to primary and secondary levels.

SPR is a basic indicator used to determine the access of school-age populations to education. A higher SPR indicates a greater number of school-age residents receiving education in a particular area.

According to the BPS report, the SPR for the 7-12 age group was the highest, at 99.57% of the total population in 2022.

The SPR for the 13-15 age group was the second highest, at 98.75%, followed by the 16-18 age group at 81.43%. The lowest SPR was for the 19-24 age group, at 29.33%.

On the other hand, the highest percentage of those not attending school was in the 16-18 age group, at 11.56% in 2022. The percentage for the 13-15 age group was 2.18%. BPS did not obtain data on those not attending school in the 7-12 age group in the New Capital City (IKN).

BPS also collected data on the proportion of East Kalimantan residents continuing their education to junior high school (SMP) or equivalent, which was 92.18% in 2022. The proportion continuing to senior high school (SM) or equivalent reached 93.10% in the same year.
