Community Mobility Begins to Recover by September 2021

A report by Indonesia's Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that the majority of Indonesian people's mobility had begun to recover by September 2021. This is evident in the average movement of people to daily necessities shopping locations, which increased by 20.5% compared to normal conditions before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mobility to retail and trade locations reached -1.9% compared to normal conditions. Previously, movement to this sector had dropped drastically in July and August, reaching -20% and -12.4% respectively compared to normal conditions.

Furthermore, movement to parks, workplaces, and transit points also improved compared to the previous months. The changes in mobility were recorded at -7.9%, -15.9%, and -27.5% respectively compared to normal conditions.

The recovery of people's mobility outside the home in September 2021 occurred partly due to the easing of the Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM Darurat). The government relaxed these policies due to a downward trend in Covid-19 cases and deaths.

However, the public is still urged to diligently implement the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. In addition, people are encouraged to avoid crowds and reduce mobility.
