This City Had the Highest Number of Divorced Residents in East Kalimantan in 2021

Many marriages end in divorce for various reasons. Based on data from the East Kalimantan Population, Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Agency (DKP3A), 6,897 divorce cases were finalized in the province in 2020.

Meanwhile, according to data from the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, there were 65,840 residents of East Kalimantan with the status of "living divorced" in 2021. This number constitutes 1.71% of the total population of 3.85 million.

In East Kalimantan's cities, the population with "living divorced" status is higher than in the regencies. Balikpapan is recorded as the area with the highest percentage of "living divorced" residents in East Kalimantan, reaching 2.42% of the total population. This is followed by Samarinda with 1.84% and Bontang with 1.83%.

Kutai Timur Regency, on the other hand, recorded the lowest percentage of "living divorced" residents at 1.13% of the total population. This is followed by Mahakam Ulu Regency at 1.33% and Kutai Kartanegara Regency at 1.43%.

"Living divorced" refers to a person who has separated from their spouse due to divorce and has not remarried. "Divorced by death" refers to a person whose spouse has died and who has not remarried.
