69% of West Kalimantan's Population Was of Working Age in June 2021

Data from the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs recorded that the population of West Kalimantan (Kalbar) was 5.46 million in June 2021. Of this number, 3.8 million (69.56%) were in the productive age group (15-64 years) of the total population.

The large proportion of the productive age group compared to the non-productive age group indicates that West Kalimantan is still in the demographic bonus era. With such a large number of people of productive age, if optimally utilized according to their abilities, it can accelerate development in the province.

There were also 1.6 million (30.4%) of West Kalimantan's population in the non-productive age category. This includes 1.4 million (25.69%) in the non-productive age group (0-14 years). There were also 259,530 (4.75%) who were in the group of people aged 65 and over.

The 5-19 year old age group dominated the population in West Kalimantan, reaching 1.52 million or more than a quarter of the province's population. Meanwhile, the elderly population aged 70 and over numbered 146,410.
