Muslims Dominate South Sulawesi's Population in June 2021

Based on data from the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), the population of South Sulawesi (Sulsel) reached 9.19 million as of June 2021. Of this number, 8.26 million (89.87%) are Muslim.

693,510 (7.54%) of Sulsel's population adheres to Christianity. Furthermore, 152,410 (1.66%) of Sulsel's population are Catholic.

There are also 152,420 (0.69%) of Sulsel's population who are Hindu. 20,820 (0.23%) of Sulsel's population are Buddhist.

The number of Sulsel residents who practice Confucianism is 76 (0.01%). Meanwhile, 688 residents (0.01%) adhere to indigenous beliefs.

By gender, 4.56 million (49.65%) of South Sulawesi's population are male. Meanwhile, 4.63 million (50.35%) are female.

Based on marital status, 4.18 million (45.52%) of Sulsel's population are married. 4.54 million (49.44%) are unmarried.
