Mount Dukono Erupts Again Today, Eruption Height Reaches 1,200 Meters

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 4:29 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Dukono has erupted 6 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to reach 1,200 meters above the peak or 2,287 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 32 millimeters and a duration of 101.42 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Dukono is at Level II (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on November 26, 2024, from 00.00 to 23.59 WIT showed 117 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 7-34 millimeters and durations of 34.3-282.42 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 9 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 14-27 millimeters, s-p 16.43-51.1 seconds, and durations of 61.7-134.67 seconds, as well as 1 continuous tremor with an amplitude of 1-6 millimeters, predominantly 6 millimeters.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to conduct activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 3-kilometer radius.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,445 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Ibu in North Maluku had the most eruptions (2,217 eruptions), while Mount Dukono erupted 53 times.
