A segment of Indonesian society believes that the Indonesian National Police (Polri) has not yet implemented fair law enforcement in handling cases.

According to a Kompas Research and Development (Litbang Kompas) survey, 40% of respondents assessed that law enforcement by the Polri is not yet fair.

“Respondents believe that law enforcement by the Polri is still very subjective and violates the principle of justice,” as quoted from a Litbang Kompas article titled "Appreciation and Challenges for the Polri" on Monday (4/7/2022).

Conversely, the majority, or 51.4% of respondents, considered that law enforcement by the Polri is fair, impartial, and equitable. Meanwhile, 8.6% of respondents said they did not know.

Although most people believe that law enforcement by the Polri is quite good, the Polri should demonstrate a more transparent and accountable law enforcement process. This is important to foster public trust in fair law enforcement by this state institution.

The survey was conducted from June 25-28, 2022, via telephone interviews with 504 respondents across 34 provinces, using a randomly determined sample. The survey method has a 95% confidence level with a margin of error of approximately 4.37%.
