Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Afternoon (Friday, June 7, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 3:37 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 22 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the visual eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 47.3 millimeters and a duration of 448 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on June 7, 2024, from 00.00 to 23.59 WITA showed 5 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 7.4-47.3 millimeters and durations of 181-548 seconds.

Then, there were 2 emission quakes with amplitudes of 5.1-10.5 millimeters and durations of 30-32 seconds, and 21 shallow volcanic quakes with amplitudes of 3.7-14.8 millimeters and durations of 7-12 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 2-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, and a sectoral 3-kilometer radius in the Northeast direction and a 5-kilometer radius in the East Northeast sector.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 925 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (373 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 161 times.
