The number of workplace accidents in the mining area decreased by 27.3% in 2021.

Working in the mining sector is a job with a relatively high risk of accidents. Various work-related accidents in mining are common and can even be fatal.

Based on data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), 93 mining accidents were recorded in 2021, a 27.3% decrease from the previous year. This includes 36 minor accidents and 57 serious accidents. Of the 93 mining accidents in 2021, 11 people died as a result of work-related accidents.

From 2019 to 2021, the number of mining accidents decreased, as did the number of fatalities. The highest number of accidents and fatalities occurred in 2019, with 133 accidents, including 27 minor accidents, 106 serious accidents, and 24 fatalities.

Several factors frequently contribute to mining accidents, including the absence, incompleteness, or malfunction of safety equipment or systems.

To prevent accidents, mining workers should take the following precautions: never ignore warning signs, plan and communicate effectively, and participate in professional training.
