Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Tonight (Saturday, April 19, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 10:05 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 60 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed at approximately 500 meters above the peak (2,084 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the north and northeast. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 14.8 millimeters and a duration of 61 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 19, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM WITA showed 8 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 7.4-14.8 millimeters and durations of 57-125 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 5 puffing quakes with amplitudes of 2.1-5.9 millimeters and durations of 30-115 seconds, and 4 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 4.4-7.4 millimeters and durations of 85-170 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 6-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 3,008 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,349 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 310 times.
