Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Tonight (Sunday, March 16, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at 9:01 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 45 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to reach 1,000 meters above the peak or 2,584 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the north and northeast. The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on March 16, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM WITA showed 3 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 7.4-22.2 millimeters and durations of 106-315 seconds.

Then, there were 4 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 2.9-7.4 millimeters and durations of 27-99 seconds, and 5 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 4.4-7.4 millimeters and durations of 86-160 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 5-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and in the southwest-north-northeast sector up to 6 kilometers.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,231 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,022 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 198 times.
