The Jakarta poverty line exceeded Rp 500,000 per capita per month for the first time in March 2016. Statistics Indonesia recorded the Jakarta poverty line at Rp 510,388 per capita per month, with the food poverty line at Rp 329,644 and the non-food poverty line at Rp 180,715 per capita per month.
Throughout 2007-2016, the average proportion of food expenditure for Jakarta residents was 62-66 percent, while non-food expenditure was 34-38 percent.
In September 2016, the poverty line or cost of living in Jakarta increased again to Rp 520,690 per capita per month. The number of poor residents reached 385,840 or 3.75 percent. Nationally, Jakarta's cost of living ranked fourth, behind Bangka Belitung Islands (Rp 564,391) per capita per month, North Kalimantan (Rp 530,566), and East Kalimantan (Rp 526,686).
