Christianity is the second largest religion on the island of Java, after Islam, which is the majority religion.

According to data from the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil), the number of Christians on the island of Java totaled 3.51 million in June 2022. This represents 2.27% of Java's total population of 154.34 million.

Jakarta is recorded as the province with the largest Christian population on the island of Java, namely 963,330 as of June 2022. This amounts to 8.56% of the capital's total population of 11.25 million.

The next province with the largest Christian population is West Java, reaching 869,170 (1.79%). Followed by East Java with a Christian population of 678,750 (1.65%).

After that, there is Central Java with a Christian population of 593,150 (1.58%), then Banten with 317,020 (2.61%), and the Special Region of Yogyakarta with 89,010 (2.42%).

Meanwhile, the Muslim population on the island of Java reached 148.19 million (96.02%). Then there are 1.67 million Catholics (1.08%), and 760,690 Buddhists (0.49%).

Following that, the number of Hindus on the island of Java is 168,360 (0.11%), followers of Confucianism number 19,640 (0.01%), and adherents of indigenous beliefs number 20,320 (0.01%).
