Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Afternoon, Ash Plume Reaches Approximately 1,000 Meters

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Tuesday (30/9/2025) at 14:15 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 18 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be approximately 1,000 meters above the peak (2,584 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be grey with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 10.5 millimeters and a duration of 84 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on September 30, 2025, from 06:00-12:00 WITA showed 2 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 7.4-22.2 millimeters and durations of 118-220 seconds.

Subsequently, there were 2 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-4.4 millimeters and durations of 30-36 seconds, and 6 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2.9-7.4 millimeters and durations of 63-99 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 6-kilometer radius from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,471 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,537 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 661 times.
