Indonesia's Human Development Index Continues to Rise Through 2023

Based on a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia's Human Development Index (HDI) reached 74.39 points in 2023.

This figure represents a 0.84% increase compared to the 2022 HDI of 73.77. Meanwhile, the average annual growth of Indonesia's HDI during 2020-2023 was 0.72%.

Indonesia's HDI achievement falls into the high category. The category values are as follows:

* Very high (HDI ? 80)
* High (70 ? HDI ? 80)
* Medium (60 ? HDI ? 70)
* Low (HDI ? 60)

BPS notes that this year's increase in the HDI was driven by growth in all its constituent indicators. Firstly, life expectancy at birth reached 73.93 years in 2023. This dimension grew by 0.31% compared to 2022, which was 73.70 years.

Secondly, expected years of schooling (EYS) for the population aged 25 and over reached 13.15 years in 2023. This figure increased by 0.38% from 12.10 years in 2022.

Thirdly, mean years of schooling (MYS) was recorded at 8.77 years this year, a 0.92% increase from 8.69 years in 2022.

Finally, adjusted real per capita annual expenditure reached Rp11.89 million in 2023. This figure increased by 3.66% from Rp11.47 million in 2022.
