Future New Capital City, What is the Population of East Kalimantan?

The Indonesian government is reportedly planning to relocate the capital city to East Kalimantan Province. Based on the 2015 SUPAS report titled *Proyeksi Penduduk Indonesia 2015-2045* (Indonesia's Population Projection 2015-2045), the population of East Kalimantan in 2019 was estimated at 3.6 million. This comprised approximately 1.8 million men and 1.7 million women.

Until 2045, East Kalimantan's population is projected to grow by an average of 4.41% every five years. In 2020, the population is predicted to reach 3.6 million, with 1.9 million men and 1.7 million women. Five years later, it is expected to increase by 5.86% to 3.9 million, with 1.9 million men and 1.8 million women. By 2030, the population is projected to increase by 5.02% to 4 million.

By 2045, the population of East Kalimantan is projected to increase by 5.8% from five years prior. Specifically, the difference between the male and female populations will be only 3,800, with a composition of approximately 2.25 million men and 2.24 million women.
