Indonesia Among Countries with the Most Starbucks Outlets

As a global modern coffee shop chain, Starbucks Corporation has thrived in numerous countries. According to its financial reports, Starbucks claims to have reached 38,038 stores globally as of October 2023.

Details show that international Starbucks outlets reached 20,228 in October 2023. This number increased by 10% year-on-year (YoY) from 18,416 outlets in October 2022. Meanwhile, outlets in the North American segment reached 17,810 in October 2023.

"52% are company-operated and 48% are licensed," according to Starbucks' financial report.

The United States is recorded as the country with the highest number of outlets, with 15,873 locations in 2022, based on Starbucks data compiled by Statista.

This number comprises 9,265 company-operated outlets and 6,608 licensed outlets.

China is in second place with 6,019 outlets, all of which are company-operated.

Third is Canada, with 2,101 outlets. This includes 1,630 company-operated outlets and 471 licensed outlets.

Indonesia is last on this top 10 list, with 523 outlets. All outlets are licensed, not company-operated.

For information, Starbucks has two types of outlets: company-operated and licensed outlets. Company-operated outlets are directly operated by Starbucks Corporation, while licensed outlets are operated by businesses that have signed a licensing agreement with Starbucks.

According to Business Quant, licensed outlets differ from franchises. Through licensing arrangements, individuals are not owners of the outlet. This allows Starbucks to maintain significant control over the operation of its outlets.
