Top 10 Indonesian Provinces with the Highest Rate of Regular Exercise in 2022

According to a report by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora), 30.93% of Indonesian citizens engaged in physical activity in 2022. This figure is based on the population aged 10-60 years who exercised at least three times a week.

Maluku province had the highest rate of regular physical activity last year, with 61.67% of its population participating.

West Sulawesi followed with 42.22% of its population regularly exercising, followed by North Kalimantan at 40%.

On the other hand, North Maluku had the lowest participation rate at 13.33%, followed by South Kalimantan at 16.67% and Jakarta at 22.12%.

The following is a list of the top 10 provinces with the highest sports participation rates in Indonesia in 2022:

1. Maluku: 61.67%
2. West Sulawesi: 42.22%
3. North Kalimantan: 40%
4. Central Sulawesi: 38.89%
5. North Sulawesi: 38.67%
6. Aceh: 37.67%
7. East Nusa Tenggara (NTT): 37.33%
8. Southeast Sulawesi: 37.33%
9. Riau: 35.64%
10. Riau Islands: 35%

The actual participation rate is far below Kemenpora's target of 36.39% for last year.

"The failure to achieve the 2022 target is due to the lack of concrete, integrated, and collaborative policy interventions and programs between central and regional government agencies regarding sports participation," wrote Kemenpora in its report.

In response to the low rate of physical activity in Indonesia, Kemenpora has undertaken several initiatives, including joint sports activities at both central and regional levels.
