The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) report titled Global Terrorism Index (GTI) 2026 shows that Indonesia ranked fourth as the country most affected by terrorism in the Asia-Pacific region in 2026.
According to IEP's measurements, Indonesia had a GTI score of 4.714 points this year. This achievement places it 24th globally. IEP noted that the total number of deaths from terrorism in Indonesia increased by 50% in 2026.
"Almost all incidents in Indonesia occurred in the West Papua region and were associated with armed groups," IEP wrote in its report.
On the other hand, Indonesia faces security concerns stemming from online radicalization by transnational jihadist organizations.
Meanwhile, Myanmar ranked first as the country most affected by terrorism in the Asia-Pacific region with an index score of 6.245 points.
According to the IEP report, the impact of terrorism in the Asia-Pacific region has generally improved over the past year.
The number of deaths from terrorism fell by 27.7%, while the number of incidents decreased by 37.6%.

- Thailand: 5.275 points
- Philippines: 4.719 points
- Indonesia: 4.714 points
- Australia: 3.732 points
- China: 1.311 points
- Malaysia: 1.092 points
- Japan: 0.571 points
- South Korea: 0.333 points
- Cambodia: 0.233 points
- New Zealand: 0.114 points.
It should be noted that the data listed above only include countries with scores or that were affected. Other countries such as Singapore, Timor Leste, and so on are not listed.
IEP calculates the GTI score based on four indicators, namely the number of incidents, deaths, injuries, and hostages caused by acts of terrorism.
As for the scale used by GTI, it ranges from 0 to 10, with 0 indicating no impact from terrorism, while 10 represents the highest impact of terrorism.
GTI analyzes the impact of terrorism in 163 countries around the world.
