The Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA) surveyed public opinion regarding who should be responsible for protecting the public from scams in Indonesia.

As many as 14% of respondents believe the government should be responsible. This is followed by online platforms used by scammers (12%) and consumer protection authorities (8%).

"Adults in Indonesia believe that the responsibility for protecting the public from scams lies with public service institutions, especially the government," GASA wrote in its report titled State of Scams in Indonesia 2025.

Consumer protection authorities: 8%

Website providers or hosting companies used by scammers: 7%

Police: 6%

Financial protection authorities: 6%

Telecommunication operators or mobile service providers: 4%

Banks, payment methods, or crypto platforms: 3%

Insurance companies: 0%

Nevertheless, the majority, or 36% of respondents, stated that avoiding scams is a personal responsibility.

Meanwhile, 34% of respondents believe it should be handled by public service organizations, and 26% by commercial organizations.

GASA conducted the survey among 1,000 respondents aged 18 and above across Indonesia. Respondents consisted of 50% males and 50% females.

By age group, Gen X respondents (45-60 years old) accounted for 35%, Millennials (29-44 years old) 34%, Gen Z (18-28 years old) 24%, and baby boomers (61-70 years old) 6%. Data collection was conducted online from February 26 to March 14, 2025.
