According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the percentage of households in Indonesia with access to decent housing has increased over the past decade.

BPS explains that there are 4 criteria for decent housing, namely:

Sufficient living space, a minimum of 7.2 m² per capita;
Having access to proper drinking water;
Having access to proper sanitation; and
Durable housing.

In 2015, only 49.05% of Indonesian households had access to decent housing. After that, the trend gradually rose, reaching 65.25% in 2024.

The increase occurred almost every year, except in 2022 when the figure decreased compared to the previous year, as shown in the graph above.

In 2024, DI Yogyakarta Province had the highest percentage of households with access to decent housing nationally, at 86.68%.

Meanwhile, Papua Pegunungan Province had the lowest, at only 4.44%.
