Majority of The World Considers Trump's Economic Policies to Have A Negative Impact

According to an Ipsos survey, a significant portion of the global population believes that the United States' economic policies will negatively impact the world, their respective countries, and their personal lives by 2025.

A majority, or 61%, of respondents stated that the economic policies of former US President Donald Trump, famously characterized by the "America First" slogan, would negatively affect the global economy. Respondents in 28 out of 29 surveyed countries also believed these policies would negatively impact global trade. Ipsos noted that only respondents from India tended to support this agenda.

Furthermore, 58% of respondents felt that the "America First" regulations would impact their national economies.

"Only 16% of the 28 countries felt that these policies would improve their national economies. India and Argentina were the only countries where the public tended to believe their economies would benefit rather than suffer," Ipsos stated in its report.

President Trump's economic policies were also considered by 54% of respondents to negatively impact their country's relationship with the US. Respondents also believed these policies would negatively affect the US economy itself or even their personal finances.

"When asked how people expected President Trump's 'America First' agenda to affect their own finances, the proportion who felt it would have a negative impact was lower than for other questions (41%). However, very few thought it would have a positive impact (15%)," Ipsos stated.

This online survey was conducted from April 25 to May 9, 2025, involving 22,734 respondents aged 16-74 from 29 countries, including Indonesia.
