According to data from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights received by the Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (ICJR), as of December 31, 2024, there were 562 death row inmates in Indonesia awaiting execution.
The majority are aged between 41-50 years old, numbering 193 individuals or 34.3% of the total national death row population.
The next largest group is death row inmates aged between 31-40 years old, numbering 172 individuals (30.6%).
Those over 50 years old number 126 (22.4%), and those aged 21-30 years old number 71 (12.6%).
The ICJR revealed that in 2024, the most common crime resulting in the death penalty in Indonesia was drug-related offenses (85.81%).
Other cases receiving similar sentences include premeditated murder (10.23%); murder (0.33%); premeditated murder with other offenses (3.30%); and violence, forcing a child into sexual intercourse with themselves or another person, resulting in death (0.33%).
