By the end of May 2025, nearly 600 suicides occurred in Indonesia

According to data from the National Criminal Information Center (Pusiknas) of the Indonesian National Police (Polri), from January 1 to May 28, 2025, until 08:15 WIB (Western Indonesian Time), there were 594 recorded suicide cases in Indonesia. Based on police jurisdiction, Central Java Police handled the most cases, with a total of 156 suicides.

This was followed by East Java Police with 81 cases, Bali Police with 57 cases, North Sumatra Police with 42 cases, and West Java Police with 41 cases. Meanwhile, a high number of suicide cases were also handled by the Special Region of Yogyakarta Police, Metro Jaya Police, Central Kalimantan Police, East Nusa Tenggara Police, and West Kalimantan Police.

Still based on Pusiknas Polri data, the most common location for suicides was residential areas, with 435 cases. This was followed by plantations with 43 cases, fields and riverbanks with 11 cases each, coastal waters and rice paddies with eight cases each, and public roads, boarding houses, and offices with seven cases each.

Previously, another suicide occurred on Monday morning, May 26th. A Bank Indonesia (BI) employee allegedly ended their life by jumping from the helipad of the BI Typical Building in Central Jakarta.

“Based on CCTV analysis and witness statements, it was found that after arriving at the BI building around 05:48 WIB, the deceased took the elevator to the 15th floor at 06:01 WIB. They jumped from the west rooftop of the building around 06:07 WIB,” said Gambir Metro Police Chief, Kompol Rezeki Revi Respati, in a written statement on Tuesday, May 27th.
