The Hopes and Expectations of the Public for the Advancement of Indonesian Sports

According to a Kompas Research and Development (Litbang Kompas) survey, the public has diverse expectations regarding advancements in sports.

The majority, or 37.4% of respondents, hope that the Indonesian national football team can qualify for the World Cup.

Furthermore, 23.3% of respondents hope that Indonesian athletes can achieve greater international success.

Then, 20% desire higher-quality athlete development, and 17.5% hope that Indonesia will host international competitions.

"Besides enhancing the nation's prestige, hosting also provides exposure for athletes, better preparing them for other international competitions," stated the Litbang Kompas team in their report on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.

Litbang Kompas also found that the majority, or 29.4% of respondents, consider the main issue in national sports to be the lack of athlete welfare.

"This is primarily reflected in the plight of retired athletes who often live on the brink of poverty," said the Litbang Kompas team.

This survey involved 637 respondents from 38 provinces, randomly selected from the Litbang Kompas panel, in proportion to the population of each province.

Data collection was conducted from October 9-11, 2024, through telephone interviews. The survey's margin of error is approximately 3.88%, with a 95% confidence level, under conditions of simple random sampling.
