World's Most Generous Countries 2024: Indonesia Remains Champion

Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) has released its latest World Giving Index 2024, ranking the world's most generous countries.

The ranking is based on a survey of 145,702 respondents from 142 countries in 2023.

The World Giving Index assesses respondents' experiences in helping strangers, donating to charity, and volunteering their time.

Positive responses were averaged per country and formulated into an index score on a scale of 0-100. A higher score indicates a larger proportion of the population frequently engages in charitable activities.

Using this methodology, Indonesia ranked as the world's most generous country in 2024 with a score of 74 out of 100, up from 68 in 2023.

"Indonesia has achieved this ranking for seven consecutive years, having first overtaken Myanmar in 2017," CAF stated in its report.

In 2024, Indonesia scored 66 in helping strangers, 90 in monetary donations, and 65 in volunteering.

1. Indonesia: 74 points
2. Kenya: 63 points
3. Singapore: 61 points
4. Gambia: 61 points
5. Nigeria: 60 points
6. United States: 59 points
7. Ukraine: 57 points
8. Australia: 54 points
9. United Arab Emirates (UAE): 54 points
10. Malta: 54 points

Meanwhile, Dominica, Hungary, and the Czech Republic had the lowest World Giving Index scores, each achieving 43 points in 2024.
