The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that Batang Regency had 248 prepared villages in 2020. The details are: 95 villages were categorized as "Madya" (intermediate), 132 as "Purnama" (full moon), and 21 as "Mandiri" (independent).

Batang Sub-district had the highest number of prepared villages in Batang Regency, with 21 villages: 15 Madya, 5 Purnama, and 1 Mandiri. Tersono Sub-district followed with 20 villages: 2 Madya, 17 Purnama, and 1 Mandiri.

The concept of a "prepared village" involves establishing a system within a village responsible for maintaining public health, guided and interacting with one midwife and two village cadres.

Prepared villages emerged as a government response to persistent health problems in Indonesia, such as high maternal and infant mortality rates, tuberculosis, diarrhea, dengue fever, and others.

A village is declared a prepared village if it meets several criteria, including having one resident midwife, at least two village cadres, and at least one village health post building and medical equipment.
