East Nusa Tenggara Had the Highest Percentage of Catholic Adherents Nationally in June 2021

East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has the highest percentage of Catholic residents in Indonesia. Based on data from the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), the number of Catholics in NTT is 2.94 million, or 53.61% of its population of 5.48 million.

West Kalimantan is second, with 22.15% of its 5.46 million population being Catholic. Following this is Papua, with 15.71% of its 4.31 million population identifying as Catholic.

West Papua has 7.74% of its 1.15 million population identifying as Catholic. Similarly, 6.87% of Maluku's 1.88 million population is Catholic.

North Kalimantan has 6.1% of its 692,240 population identifying as Catholic. The percentage of Catholics in Yogyakarta is 4.51% of its 3.68 million population.

North Sulawesi has 4.43% of its 2.66 million population identifying as Catholic. In North Kalimantan, the percentage of Catholics is 4.42% of its 3.81 million population. Meanwhile, 3.9% of North Sumatra's 11.25 million population is Catholic.

Catholicism is the third largest religion in Indonesia after Islam and Protestantism. It accounts for 3.09% of Indonesia's total population of 272.23 million.
