Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK): Number of Hotspots in Indonesia Reaches 165 in the Last 24 Hours (Sunday, June 23, 2024)

Based on the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK)'s SiPongi forest and land fire monitoring system, 24-hour monitoring shows 165 hotspots detected in Indonesia. This is a decrease of 148 hotspots compared to the previous period.

This data is the result of satellite imagery from Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA, accessed on Sunday (23/6/2024) at 16:49 WIB. Of the 165 hotspots detected, 2 have a high confidence level, 161 are medium, and 2 are low.

The hotspot confidence level is divided into 3 scales: low (0-29), medium (30-79), and high (80-100). The higher the confidence level, the higher the likelihood of forest and land fires in a particular area.

The highest number of hotspots were detected in East Java (31). East Nusa Tenggara is second with 29 hotspots, followed by Central Java with 15.

Thirteen hotspots were detected in Central Sulawesi, 11 in Riau, and 11 each in Banten and Lampung.

Hotspots are coordinate points of an area with a higher surface temperature than its surroundings, and not the number of forest and land fire incidents.

However, a large number of hotspots clustered in one area indicates forest and land fires. This means that hotspot data from remote sensing satellites remains the most effective method for monitoring forest and land fires over large areas.
