Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Friday, October 11, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 10:10 WITA (West Indonesia Time). In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 23 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to be approximately 700 meters above the peak or 2,284 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of 520 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on October 11, 2024, from 00:00 to 06:00 WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of 761 seconds.

Then, 1 puffing earthquake with an amplitude of 2.2 millimeters and a duration of 37 seconds, and 1 shallow volcanic earthquake with an amplitude of 2.2 millimeters and a duration of 11 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and Mount Lewotobi Perempuan, and 4 kilometers in the northeast sector and 5 kilometers in the northeast sector from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 4,407 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Ibu in North Maluku had the most eruptions (1,821 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 770 times.
